From now on, every inmate arriving at a BOP facility will get their initial classification within 28 days of arrival. An initial risk score will be determined at that time. The inmate can request a copy of their BP-A-1131 Determination of First Step Act FSA Eligibility, which will be placed in section 1 of their central file.

The risk assessment will be reviewed at every subsequent program review, conducted every three or six months, depending on the person’s release date.

***Inmates completing programs with a minimum or low risk may earn five days per month toward pre-release custody and an extra. 10 days per month after 2 consecutive risk assessments (one year) provided their risk score remains minimum or low and they meet the criteria above.
